Organizational Culture Diagnostic Instrument (OCDI) is Predictive of Injury Rates

CHART showing Higher OCDI Scores Predict Lower Occupational Injury RatesBST developed the Organizational Culture Diagnostic Instrument (OCDI) in order to provide our clients with an unprecedented level of accuracy in measuring cultural attributes linked to performance. At the time, each dimension had been shown to predict safety outcomes*. After several years of collecting data on the instrument and safety-performance, a study of 94 clients revealed that higher OCDI scores predicted lower injury rates. This study represented the entire range of BST’s clients across various industries, whose average occupational injury rate was 1.47. A subsequent study of 42 organizations that had injury rates of 3.0 or less showed that the same relationship holds for companies already performing at the higher end of safety improvement.

Of the organizations that scored consistently high across all OCDI scales, the top third averaged an occupational injury rate of 1.1 injuries per 100 employees per year. The rate for the bottom third is exactly 2 times the rate of the top third.
