Breakthrough Safety Performance Improvement
In our experience, the mid-managerial / supervisory level can be the most influential area to target during improvement efforts. As part of a comprehensive approach to workplace exposure reduction, BST's SafeAlign™ system includes predictive assessment instruments and methodologies, skills development through workshops and advisory sessions, structured feedback, and sustaining mechanisms.
Leveraging Essential Activities
The SafeAlign approach is an integrated system for tackling exposure at the mid-managerial and supervisory levels similar to how the Behavioral Accident Prevention Process® technology is an integrated system for addressing exposure at the working interface. System components include:
Assessment • BST's Leadership Diagnostic Instrument (LDI) is a 360° survey that reliably measures the style and practices that make a difference in safety as well as in general performance areas. Measuring the Leadership Style characteristics of Inspiring, Influencing, Challenging, and Engaging and the Leadership Best Practices of Vision, Credibility, Action-Orientation, Communication, Collaboration, Feedback and Recognition, and Accountability, the diagnostic gives site leaders a roadmap for quickly achieving the greatest gains in their activities.
Skills Development • One-day workshops and refresher courses, each with specific target areas, address Personal Safety Ethic, each of the Leadership Style characteristics, and each of the Best Practices. While outlining the principles of strong leadership, the workshops, reinforcement, and innovative memory aids focus on practical behaviors that managers and supervisors can use immediately, and in ways that are measurable and sustainable. In addition, tailored coaching and advisory sessions that use individual's LDI results as well as the goals of the organization are conducted to reinforce key leadership skills and to help individuals apply those skills in the workplace.
Feedback and Sustainability • Through Leadership Observation and Feedback processes, as well as web-enabled prompting tools, supervisors and managers have ample opportunities to reinforce and enhance the gains they have made. This enables them, and their organizations, to truly Lead with Safety.
