Leadership Coaching
Sustaining Leadership Excellence Through Ongoing Feedback
When a leader has a clear understanding of what critical behaviors are important for him or her to perform and how they are related to the end point objective, the stage is set for growth, both for the individual and for his or her work group. That is why Leadership Coaching is so often a component of successful, sustainable safety initiatives.
To continually enhance their effectiveness, leaders need to:
- Understand exactly what they personally need to improve.
- Receive specific, honest feedback that validates that insight.
- Be able to work on those behaviors in a focused and direct manner.
BST delivers theses outcomes through one-on-one performance coaching with an experienced, objective behavioral consultant. Our Leadership Coaching process enables leaders to change the safety culture by moving them quickly from supporting safety to leading it. It does so by focusing on:
Individual Needs
: Session content is shaped by assessment data-initially from diagnostics such as BST’s
Leadership Diagnostic Instrument or
Leadership Forecast Tool—regarding the leader’s own behaviors, to develop a picture of how the leader’s individual profile inter-relates with the organization’s culture and objectives.
Action
: Little time is spent on “why.” Almost all the time is spent on “what” to do and how to do it. The leader and coach follow a collaboratively developed plan that details new leadership behaviors, their corresponding actionable items and the concrete, identifiable outcomes that provide evidence of progress.
Ongoing Support
: The leaders will be enrolled in the BST Prompt Tool Service, which provides periodic antecedents to trigger the leader to execute agreed-upon behaviors within a certain time frame and in specific situations. As a data collection device, the Prompt Tool also provides useful information for subsequent coaching sessions.
