Leadership Skills Development System
Visible, Influential Leadership to Reduce Safety Exposure
It’s one thing to tell an employee what needs to be done to minimize exposures. That’s managing. It’s quite another thing to motivate employees to take ownership of safety performance. That’s leadership.
BST’s Leadership Skills Development System is an instructor-led, peer-sustained leadership development approach for supervisors and managers. It is based on BST research and experience regarding the nine organizational factors that are predictive of safety performance.
Designed to enhance safety leadership at all levels in an organization, the system draws on multiple BST capabilities:
Assessment
: Working with key stakeholders in your organization, we will identify the appropriate assessment tool or tools to gauge leadership capability. Supervisors and managers, at all levels, can be included in the assessment plan. Assessment tools may include BST’s
Leadership Diagnostic Instrument,
Leadership Forecast Tool and/or your organization’s own diagnostic resources. Drawing on those assessments, we will also help your organization to compile a
Critical Behavior Inventory® (CBI®) that will provide the foundation for selecting and implementing other components of the system.
Training
: The ten instructor-led training modules of the system cover critical leadership skills, from Setting Expectations to Handling Conflict to Influential Leadership. Using assessment results as a guide, the one-day modules can be selected, customized and sequenced to meet the development needs of specific levels of managers and/or types of work groups.
Sustaining Tools
: Progress toward goals for leadership depends on application of new or enhanced skills back on the job. Customized to your organization’s specific needs, BST’s
Leader Behavioral Observation and Feedback ensures that supervisors and managers embrace and apply a structured data collection and feedback process that keeps them focused on inspiring others to safety excellence.
