Leader Behavioral Observation and Feedback
A Data-Based System for Attaining Leadership Goals
One of the great difficulties of changing behavior is that useful and timely feedback is so very rare. And because the significant cognitive component of leadership skills makes them so challenging to track, most people in leadership roles lack the meaningful input they need to enhance desired behavior and identify and overcome unproductive behavior.
BST’s Leader Behavioral Observation and Feedback provides a flexible system for leadership skills data collection and feedback that directly addresses this need. Though tailored to each organization’s specific requirements, BST’s Leader Behavioral Observation and Feedback typically includes the following:
Critical Behavior Inventory® (CBI®)
: This is the foundation of the system-identification of the critical safety leadership behaviors necessary to establish and maintain the desired culture. The CBI® is typically developed through discussions with key management, as well as collaborative working sessions and validation with the leaders who need to enhance these practices in their own work lives. It often draws on the results of assessment tools, such as the
Leadership Diagnostic Instrument and/or the
Leadership Forecast Tool.
Feedback Process
: BST assists the organization in selecting and committing to mechanisms that ensure each individual receives specific, real-time data on their performance (or lack of performance) of the behaviors identified in the CBI. Data is gathered through a variety of approaches, depending on the organizational situation and structure. Whatever mechanism is used, participants are equipped with the advanced interviewing and discovery skills to provide specific, meaningful feedback.
Sustaining Tools
: BST works with the organization to incorporate observation and feedback into ongoing, sustainable business processes. Among its tools for accomplishing this is software to track and accumulate behavioral data, applicable to all levels of the organization, for specific use in assessing organizational leadership skills. BST works with the organization to build its ability to recognize improvement targets in leadership behavior and use data and applied behavior analysis to drive improvement. A process check two months after the system becomes operational enables the organization to evaluate the effectiveness of the process and to refine the system.
