Organisational Safety Services: ensuring that leaders, supervisors and frontline employees work together to maximise safety performance.

Organisations that lead the way in safety do more than look for ways to reduce injury. Organisations that lead the way in safety do so by identifying and eliminating exposure to hazards.Exposure to hazards occurs at the working interface-the place where conditions, systems and technology interact with what people do.

With the Behavior Accident Prevention Process® (BAPP®), BST's pioneering safety process, hundreds of organisations worldwide have succeeded in integrating employee safety efforts across all organisational levels, initiatives and activities. The resulting shift from injury to exposure has produced unsurpassed safety performance results for these organisations.

Overview: Behavioral Accident Prevention Process® (BAPP®)
BST’s Behavioral Accident Prevention Process® (BAPP®) helps organisations to assess and leverage the complex combination of conditions, management systems, and actions by people that influence injury causation. At over 2,000 locations around the world, BAPP® has enabled organisations to achieve new levels of safety performance excellence.

What Makes BAPP® Different?
Many basic behavior-based safety processes rely on the mechanism of reinforcement as the way to change behavior. However, reinforcement alone cannot change behaviors that are driven by systems issues such as procedures, equipment, and facility design.BAPP® offers a broader approach focused on all aspects of the working environment that influence injury.

How Does BAPP® Work?
To accurately measure and intervene in the working interface, BAPP ensures that organisations build the four essential components of a sustainable employee-driven safety system. Executed in collaboration with key constituencies within your organisation, BAPP®’s planning, assessment and implementation mechanisms enable your organisation to:

  • Identify the critical safe activities
  • Gather data on the performance of those activities
  • Provide ongoing feedback
  • Remove barriers

A Customised Approach
BST recognises that while best practices can and should be followed in all organisations, each will need an implementation strategy tailored to its specific requirements. To achieve this, we work intensely but efficiently to obtain a full understanding of all the factors that make your organisation unique. Selecting carefully among many proven configurations of our expertise. we then tailor our approach accordingly to ensure our solutions will maximise your progress toward your highest-priority safety performance goals.

BAPP® Supporting Services
BAPPTrack® Software: Observations alone don’t guarantee success with behavior-based safety. For lasting improvement, you need to know where those observations are occurring and where they’re not. You need to identify trends in at-risk behaviors, and the barriers contributing to them, before they become incidents.

BAPPTrack® Software is tracking and data analysis software for capturing detailed information about behaviors that are critical to safety. The software’s observation data management, comment tracking, data analysis, custom reporting and graphing enable you to easily track observations volume, rank at-risk behaviors by frequency, and report on critical behaviors by department, shift, or site. Using this software, you’ll also be able to identify the equipment and systems that help--or hinder-employees' ability to perform critical safe behaviors.

Sustainability Review
A Sustainability Review led by a BST expert at the end of every BAPP® implementation is designed to help your steering committee plan for continuous year-over-year improvement to the process-and safety outcomes. Additional ongoing support is also available through BST’s BAPP® Process Enhancement Services

Safety Enabling Systems Evaluation
For most organisations with good to excellent safety performance, the move toward improved performance is not a function of increased time spent on safety. Instead, these organisations decide which activities are absolutely crucial to success at reducing exposure and devote time and energy to improve the quality of these activities.

Through an efficient combination of document review, focus groups and analysis, BST's Safety Enabling Systems Evaluation provides an organisation with a snapshot of the perceived value of—and time dedicated to—activities within each safety enabling system. With this comprehensive picture of what is happening, senior management can confidently work with employees at all levels to determine what should be happening.
